What are neuromodulators?

Neuromodulators are substances used to alleviate wrinkles by relaxing the muscles beneath the skin. They are commercially available under various brand names such as Botox Cosmetic, Dysport, Xeomin, and Jeuveau. These substances are commonly used to address issues like wrinkles, frown lines, and crow’s feet. A small quantity of the neuromodulator is directly injected into the muscle underneath the wrinkle, which results in muscle relaxation and a gradual smoothing of the skin above it. The effects of this treatment usually persist for around three months.

Among all the neuromodulators, Botox is unique as it is the only one that has received FDA approval for treating conditions like excessive sweating and crow’s feet. However, any neuromodulator can be used to treat these conditions.
